I was so surprised of the impact we made on the alley in only a few hours the very first day even though many people were missing.

GREAT JOB everyone!

let’s keep it up.

Coming out of the walls

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

So this is what gave me a brainstorm: blog.craftzine.com: How To- Make a Succulent Wreath. We’re talking things that hang on walls that are sculpted/”grow” out of their hanging mechanisms, with added elements made of, say, wood, ceramics, metal, etc.

Also neato: Heavy Petal: Resistance is Fertile. Lots of potential ideas there.

Metal Flowers

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I’m still really thinking about trying out the metal flower thing because of the problems we face with up keep of our real plants. I found a website that sells metal flower petals for fairly cheap. check it out and let me know what you think: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5175010

obviously some concerns would be:

1. will people vandalize and/or steal from a metal garden?

2. could I make my own metal flowers for less money?

3. how can I make it tasteful and cheap…without LOOKING cheap?

etc., etc., etc.

Please send feedback.

danku!

Get Green: Landscape Tour Photos 1/18/08

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I didn’t take a surplus of landscape pictures because I wasn’t sure where we were going to be working…I was under the impression we were just brainstorming, surveying, and planning. So, most of the pictures that I took were just for fun. I will make sure to take more pictures the next time we’re out there. Here is what I’ve gotten so far…

Jan. 18th Hilda Gilchrist visited with the Get Green workshop students and toured the Gaines Street area, giving suggestions about how to make a blighted and visually ugly location more people friendly and humane.

Here we are where the alley begins or ends in the parking lot
behind Fat Sandwich and across the street from All Saints Cafe.

Feedback is always appreciated.

See you guys at the next meeting. ;-)

Chris Moss gave me these herbs and a tour of his garden on Macomb St.

some planters

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

here are some images of a planter i nailed to a telephone pole outside the warehouse. i got the idea from one of those websites paul sent out a while back.

i really liked the idea of personalizing little plant houses, and i would like to do more of these with more elaborate designs… think of like, the way a cuckoo clock is designed. i dunno.

i heard the cactus has died already.. maybe we can research some plants that need no care at all?

also, while im thinking about stuff.. why not like, bird houses with a little planter on top? no? lets chat. send me a fax, no, send me an eFax.

i’ll give you my beeper number, and you can page me… then i’ll call you from a pay phone and give you my fax number so you can send me a fax of what you want to talk about, then i’ll eFax you back my responses and you can then burn them onto a lazerdisc for data storage.

love, aaron
